Career Opportunity
This is a permanent, full-time position reporting to the Director of Philanthropy. This position requires working in the office. This is not a remote working position.
The Position
The Donor Connections Managerr manages donor stewardship, monthly giving and legacy giving portfolios and is the team resource for Raiser’s Edge. The incumbent also provides leadership and oversight to Kids Cancer Care’s third-party fundraising initiatives and raffles. The manager is proficient in Raiser’s Edge and Excel. This position will be assigned additional areas of leadership or support based on appropriate workloads and timing.
The Donor Connections Manager contributes to the strategic and operational planning, as well as the development of Kids Cancer Care’s highly motivated fundraising team. This position must be both task- and project-driven with the ability to manage multiple roles and responsibilities, timelines, budgets, and projects. This person is a natural connector and must be comfortable with public engagement, driven to take initiative, skilled in mentorship, and a highly effective problem solver.
Key Areas of Responsibility
The Donor Connections Manager manages Kids Cancer Care’s donor stewardship program, and its monthly donor and legacy giving initiatives. The manager also provides leadership and guidance over the foundation’s community fundraising campaigns, pursuing new and deepening existing relationships through excellent stewardship, creative marketing, and networking. The manager currently has two direct reports.
Stewardship
- Manage the stewardship program, including bringing team members alongside, to ensure all donors are thanked and stewarded with multiple touch points throughout the year;
- Update and maintain Kids Cancer Care’s stewardship grid;
- Coordinate all donor cultivation and stewardship initiatives, including new donors, In Memoriam and In Honour giving, Kids Cancer Care families, and Signature Event donors (fund-a-need and live auction);
- Coordinate all key stewardship and recognition activities, including events, signage, Ice Cream Fridays, Kindle Care Days, Board Thank You Calling program, and the Fall Donor Celebration;
- Develop and lead mass stewardship communication activities; and
- Guide team to fully utilize Raiser’s Edge to track donor interactions and update Raiser’s Edge with stewardship activities.
Mid-Level Donor Program
- Develop, implement and manage a comprehensive mid-level donor plan, including strategies to cultivate, solicit, and upgrade donors (individuals in the $500 to $5,000 giving range), coordinating with the Director of Philanthropy and Senior Development Associate – Annual Giving and Grants;
- Utilize a wide range of tactics to upgrade mid-level donor gifts and create a seamless and rewarding donor experience, including email, personal notes, calls, in-person meetings, and more;
- Develop and implement strategies for acquiring, renewing, and upgrading donors, coordinating efforts with the Senior Development Associate and integrating with the Annual Giving program;
- Collaborate with the Revenue Development and Marketing and Communications teams to ensure consistency in communications, messaging, and solicitations;
- Ensure all donors and donor interactions are tracked accurately and that individual gifts are acknowledged in a timely and appropriate manner; and
- Develop metrics to assess and grow program impact.
Legacy Giving
- Develop customized strategies and plans to identify, cultivate, engage, solicit, and steward legacy donors and prospects from within and outside the foundation community, including strategies such as one-to-one calling, direct mail campaigns, e-marketing, and any effective partnerships similar to achieve these ends;
- With the CEO, Director of Philanthropy, and other team members, identify potential legacy donors;
- Develop content for each channel of activity in collaboration with Marketing and Communications;
- Act as a central point of contact for internal and external stakeholders on matters relating to the Legacy Giving portfolio;
- Administer estate gifts and ensure ease of legacy gift transfers;
- Ensure donor information and actions are accurately maintained and recorded in the Raiser’s Edge fundraising database, ensuring the integrity of donor data; and
- Maintain legacy/estate donor information files (electronic and hard copy) in the SharePoint file management and Raiser’s Edge database systems.
Community Fundraising Leadership
- Oversee the development, planning, and growth of community events, including but not limited to, the Big Brave, Rock Your Locks, and Can Dos for Kids;
- Attend and/or lead some Can Do fundraising events;
- Assist in preparing, monitoring and reporting on annual budgets (revenue and expenditure) for community event projects and campaigns;
- Work with the development team to integrate fundraising opportunities into Kids Cancer Care’s strategic and program plans;
- Plan and ensure the use of Raiser’s Edge to track relationships and historical data;
- Ensure donor stewardship is considered and planned to enhance relationships with community fundraising partners;
- Provide accurate and timely reporting on fundraising results; and
- Ensure fundraising activities comply with Kids Cancer Care policies, Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), Service Alberta, and Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC) regulations and guidelines.
Auctions and Raffles
- Oversee and guide all Kids Cancer Care auctions and raffles, including those at its signature events (Dad and Daughter Gala), at community fundraising events (Can Dos for Kids), and its Mega 50/50;
- Be knowledgeable about AGLC rules and provide guidance to fundraising partners;
- Assist and be knowledgeable in building auction websites;
- Oversee Kids Cancer Care’s Gift in Kind program; and
- Ensure all staff are well trained in AGLC raffle rules and CRA gift in kind rules.
Budgets and Reporting
- Manage budgets for all areas of responsibility, including compiling annual budgets for both revenues and expenses, and monitoring quarterly for variations;
- Ensure budgets are based on annual planning and goals;
- Provide leadership to direct reports on their budgets both annually and quarterly;
- Maintain and/or develop metrics to best report on areas of responsibility; and
- Complete quarterly reporting for the Board Monitoring Report.
Database Management
- Serve as team lead and expert on Raiser’s Edge, completing database updates as determined in coordination with the Manager of Information Systems; and
- Manage entry of stewardship actions into Raiser’s Edge database, encouraging usage by all team members for record accuracy and relationship tracking.
Foundation Representation
- Enthusiastically communicate the mission and vision of the Foundation through verbal and written communication;
- Sit on the Fundraising and Donor Relations Committee;
- Attend events and engage with participants;
- Present to community groups, service clubs, schools and businesses; and
- Work with Kids Cancer Care staff and volunteers to ensure success of program areas.
