Summary
The Alberta Association of Midwives (AAM) is seeking proposals from qualified consultants to lead the creation of a comprehensive fundraising strategy. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Consultant, Fund Development will be responsible for the development, management, and oversight of efforts to raise funds to support AAM’s programs and activities. This role will require the identification, organization, and management of fundraising activities to secure operational and program funding from businesses, public and private organizations.

Introduction
Since 1986, the Alberta Association of Midwives (AAM) has been the professional body serving midwives and the midwifery profession in Alberta. Registered midwives in Alberta provide high quality, safe, and cost-effective care during pregnancy, labor, birth, and the six weeks postpartum. They empower individuals by offering a sense of control and ownership over their health and pregnancy outcomes. Midwifery care is based on four core principles: continuity of care, informed
choice, evidence-based practices, and choice of birth setting. The current midwifery workforce in Alberta consists of approximately 180 registered midwives, attending over 10% of births annually.
Project Outline and Deliverables
The Consultant, Fund Development will be responsible for the following key activities:
- Assess current fundraising activities and measure their Return on Investment (ROI).
- Identify and strategize remove barriers to fundraising success.
- Develop a comprehensive “Case for Support” for prospective funders.
- Form a working committee of board members and staff (if needed).
- Create a detailed fund development plan, including timelines, target groups, strategies, and goals.
- Draft campaign materials and develop outreach strategies for funders.
- Identify major funder prospects and tailor approaches to secure their support.
- Ensure compliance with all policies, regulations, and legal requirements.
- Report monthly progress to the Executive Director and Board.
- Develop strategies for funding sustainability.
Proposal Requirements:
In creating a response to this request for proposals, the consultant should carefully consider the fund development opportunities and challenges represented by the unique mandate, scope and constituencies of the AAM. Proposals should clearly demonstrate the consultant understands the AAM requirements and outlines the methods by which the consultant proposes to create this Fund Development Plan.
At a minimum, the proposal should include:
- An understanding of the unique nature and scope of the AAM
- A description of the experience of the consultants and/or consultant’s firm with fund development and advising the design and implementation of comprehensive fundraising campaigns with organizations like the AAM
- References for the company and individuals who will be involved in the creation of the plan
- If possible, provide examples of previous written work similar to the scope of the work under this RFP. Identifying information may be redacted if necessary.
- Work Plan: The proposed methodology, detailed timelines, milestones and activities of the consultant in creating the plan, including earliest start date and projected completion date
- An estimate of the time and requirements that the consultant will require of the AAM to support the consultant’s creation of the plan
- Service fee: A detailed quote for the consultancy with breakdowns along with a proposed payment schedule tied to project milestones and/or deliverables.
Proposal Evaluation Criteria:
Proposals will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
- Experience: Outline your experience with similar projects, including the size of the project, type of organization, community size, targets, and achievements.
- Proposed Work Plan: Provide a detailed description of the key activities to be conducted, including a timeline with key milestones and a budget.
- References: Provide at least two references from previous clients with similar fundraising initiatives.
- Cost: Provide an itemized cost of services, including all taxes, expenses, and fees. There will be no reimbursement for costs associated with preparing or submitting proposals.
- Conflicts of Interest: Please disclose if you are currently involved in any fundraising work in the area to avoid potential conflicts of interest.
