The Calgary Food Bank is the first line of emergency food support for families and individuals facing crisis. As the city’s main charitable food hub and the most accessible food bank we have the capacity to serve families, individuals, and organizations to fight hunger. We are currently recruiting a Manager of Fund Development to join our Community Engagement team. Our Community Engagement team is responsible for Communications, Fund Development, Donations Processing, Events and Research. Last year (September 1, 2022, to August 31, 2023), the Community Engagement team worked collaboratively to raise $20.3 million in funds and $41.9 million in food donations.
Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Manager of Fund Development is a multi-faceted role responsible for developing and implementing the fundraising strategy to generate support from individuals, corporations, foundations, planned giving and corporate partnerships to advance the mission of the Calgary Food Bank.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and oversee Calgary Food Bank’s fundraising program and business plan to secure one-time, monthly and multi-year gifts from the community through major gifts, planned giving, corporate partnerships, annual appeals and grants
- Hold a portfolio of major gift donors and prospective donors to build new and maintain existing relationships.
- Play a key role in the planning and execution of fundraising and stewardship activities.
- Develop and implement a stewardship strategy.
- Collaborate with the Communications team to develop donor-centered fundraising materials including but not limited to donor impact reports, thank you letters and proposals.
- Manage metrics and provide reports related to the progress of fundraising goals.
- Overseeing the fundraising team to ensure they meet personal goals to meet annual business objectives.
Ideal Candidate:
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in fundraising, business development and/or marketing for a non-profit organization.
- Background and experience in leading a team.
- Post-secondary degree/diploma/certificate. Preference will be given to candidates with an education in business, communications, public relations, or non-profit management.
- Demonstrated commitment to building and maintaining long-term and meaningful relationships with donors.
- Must possess a high level of professionalism, tact, and interpersonal skills to work with stakeholders at all levels.
- Must be committed to quality work and have a self-directed work ethic and demonstrate initiative when given additional assignments.
- A commitment to working collaboratively in a team environment with donors, staff, volunteers, and the general public.
- Highly organized and detail oriented with strong time management skills.
- Excellent communication skills, oral and written.
- Exceptional planning skills: ability to identify strategies to move the organization forward, set goals, create, and implement actions plans, and evaluate the process and results.
- Demonstrated knowledge of MS Office, expertise with advanced functions in Excel and experience working with a CRM, preferably Salesforce.
- Certified Fund Raising Executive designation preferred.
- Must own a vehicle and have a class 5 driver’s license.
This is a regular, full-time position working, 40 hours per week (including a half hour unpaid lunch break) 5 days a week, 8 hours per day. This is non-exempt position and therefore would not qualify for overtime. Working conditions are normal for an office environment and may require travel to meet with donors, attend events and occasional visits to the warehouse.
