President and Chief Executive Officer
Operation Eyesight Universal
Location: Calgary, Alberta

Operating since 1963, Operation Eyesight is an international development organization
dedicated to eliminating avoidable blindness. Operation Eyesight Canada (OE) is the central
organization supporting the work OE carries out in India, Nepal, Ghana, Kenya and Zambia.
Based in Canada, we have brought sight-restoration and blindness-prevention treatment
to millions of people since our founding in 1963. We work in partnership with local
governments, medical professionals and community development teams, building essential
resources that give all people, including the poorest, access to the help they need. We
have developed an innovative model of hospital-based community eye care that ensures
sustainable service for entire communities. Our mission, vision and values are tied to our
overarching organizational theme, which is For All the World to See.

The President and Chief Executive Officer, in partnership with OE’s Board of Directors, is
responsible for the overall success of the organization – both in terms of fundraising and
international operations. The President and CEO provides direction and leadership to the
organization to ensure it achieves its mission, vision, strategic plan and objectives. The
President and CEO is responsible, along with the organization’s management team, for
setting OE’s Strategic Plan for the three to five-year time frame, and for building the annual
Business Plan.

The President and CEO serves as fundraising champion, lead spokesperson and
ambassador for the organization. She/he/they is a superb communicator, a skilled listener
and is able to lead a high performing team across international boundaries. Working with
local, regional and international communities, funding agencies, individual and corporate
donors, the President and CEO has a passion for OE’s mission, working to “provide the best
for the poorest”.

The President and CEO will provide leadership to the Canada based and International
Program staff to establish short and long-term business plans, operating tactics and fund
development objectives to meet those plans. The successful candidate will have an
understanding of International Development operating requirements in the countries in
which OE operates (now and in the future), and the implications of local practices on OE’s
operations. She/he/they will have more than 15 years of progressively senior experience,
preferably in the non-profit sector. Alternatively, a background with significant professional
and management experience in “for profit” enterprises that have international operations
in India and Africa could position a candidate to be successful in this role.

The President and CEO is based in Operation Eyesight’s Calgary, Alberta headquarters and
actively supports the leadership team based both in Calgary, Ottawa, and in Hyderabad,
India. Prior to the COVID-19 global pandemic, regular travel (1 – 2 times per year for a
duration of ~2 weeks) to OE’s operating locations in South Asia and Africa was expected.
The prospect of international travel will be evaluated on an ongoing basis with the Board
of Directors, and will only be expected once it is deemed safe to do so.
