The Position:-
In partnership with the Advancement Director, Regional Philanthropy & Partnerships and the Executive Director, Community Partnerships, the Senior Development Officer (SDO) is responsible for leading the delivery of fundraising events and activities throughout Western Canada, including the award-winning BMO Walk so Kids Can Talk.
The SDO will also solicit support from regionally-based companies, individuals and foundations to secure gifts up to $100,000 annually. The SDO will manage a portfolio of assigned prospects, with annual production, cash and activity goals.
This position will also serve as the Funding Priority Lead for Kids Help Phone’s Equity Programs, providing oversight of the department’s pipeline of planned solicitations in support of programs that engage Indigenous, Black and Newcomer youth in Canada.
What You’ll Contribute:
As a primary, strategic partner of the Advancement Director and Executive Director, Community Partnerships, and in partnership with the department of Advancement, the SDO will:
- Solicit 6 figure gifts through customized proposals and face-to-face meetings (virtual and in-person); securing multi-year commitments where possible.
- Work closely with Advancement Director and members of the Senior Advancement Leadership Team in the development and execution of philanthropic, corporate and event-based giving strategies.
- Develop funding proposals to solicit corporations, foundations and individuals, partnering with peers from Advancement Operations, Stewardship and Donor Relations functions, as needed.
- Oversees special event planning, volunteer committees and execution, in partnership with the Development Officer, Regional Philanthropy & Partnerships
- Develop and maintain relationship management strategies for assigned portfolio of donors; maintain data hygiene for portfolio in Raiser’s Edge.
- Identify and cultivate prospective donor relationships by individual contact and attending events, for a diverse fundraising portfolio.
- Manage fundraising and stewardship pipeline activity, including prospect identification by working with Prospect Research, managing and continually building the regional pipeline across the stages of identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
- Recruit and train volunteers to develop a network to support awareness and fundraising strategies in various sectors, as appropriate.
- Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in non-profit management, programming and fundraising.
- Collaborates with Donor Relations to establish timely and appropriate stewardship plans, ensuring gifts are handled and recognized according to sound Advancement practices.
- Works with Advancement colleagues on internal communications, briefing notes, research profiles, funding proposals, gift agreements, stewardship reports, and accountability reports. Ensures all necessary constituents are involved in key efforts focused on specific prospects.
- Develops and maintains an in-depth knowledge of Funding Priorities and applies this knowledge in matching the interests and needs of prospects.
- Ensures all contact reports are recorded in a timely fashion in the database.
- Promotes a culture of inclusion, with a commitment to the equity, diversity, accessibility, and inclusion initiatives designed to foster an inclusive, supportive, and welcoming work environment for individuals with diverse backgrounds and identities.
What You’ll Need:
- University or college degree in fundraising or related experience in sales, marketing, business development or corporate account management.
- A minimum of 3 years’ Major Gifts experience, with a proven track record of meeting or exceeding annual revenue targets.
- Demonstrated success in soliciting multi-year gifts at the 6-figure level
- Meticulous attention to detail.
- Demonstrated, tact, diplomacy, interpersonal and written skills to liaise with senior management, staff, volunteers and donors.
- Ability to work independently and in a dynamic, multidisciplinary team environment – developing partnerships with teams across the organization, nationally.
- Strong organizational skills to determine work priorities and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced work environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of products, Raisers Edge and electronic databases.
- Holds or is working towards the Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) designation or equivalent will be considered an asset.
- This position may require travel within Canada and throughout Western Canada. A valid driver’s license and passport is required.
