The Position:
We are looking for a full time Senior Director of Philanthropy & Communications. The Senior Director of Philanthropy & Communications reports to the Executive Director and is a key member of Hull’s senior leadership team. This role requires close collaboration with other senior directors and with the Senior Operations Team. The Senior Director will also support the Campaign Cabinet, and the Development and Government Relations Committee.
The senior directors play a key role in upholding Hull Services’ profile as a leading provider of child, youth, and family mental health services. The Senior Director is a dynamic and strategic leader responsible for overseeing fundraising, communications, and government relations. In addition, the Senior Director develops and executes strategies that enhance our revenue streams, brand visibility, and relationships with key interest holders. The Senior Director will also take the lead in the development, implementation and coordination of future capital campaigns.
The Senior Director of Philanthropy & Communications will be an effective relationship builder and storyteller who can bring our mission to life through strong presentations, engagement and proposals that inspire investment and build a pipeline of corporate, foundation and individual philanthropy and funding for Hull Services.
Duties and Key Responsibilities:
Fundraising:
- Lead the planning and execution of a major capital campaign, ensuring alignment with Hull Services’ mission and strategic goals.
- Recruit and enhance the current teams of Development and Communications to support the increasing needs of fundraising and reporting
- Develop and implement comprehensive annual fundraising strategies to cultivate and solicit major gifts, corporate sponsorships, foundation grants, and individual donations.
- Curate and prepare donor proposals, ensuring they are tailored to donorguidelines and interests.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with current and prospective donors, ensuring high levels of engagement and satisfaction.
- Update donor recognition programs as required to ensure proper stewardship practices are in place.
- Ensure the success of all fundraising related special events.
- Provide reporting on the impacts that donations (specific or general) have on the various programs and the youth and families they support
- Work with internal senior leadership to ensure Hull’s institutional fundraising priorities are relevant and support the direction of the Capital Campaign
- Work with internal and external stakeholders, Board of Governors, Foundation Board, and Campaign Cabinet to identify and cultivate potential major gift donors.
- Manage the Capital Campaign Cabinet, define objectives, moves management, and operational supports.
Communications:
- Develop and oversee the implementation of integrated marketing and communication strategies to enhance Hull Services’ brand and visibility.
- Ensure efficient internal communications within the organization.
- Ensure that the capital campaign, annual fundraising, event marketing, volunteer and sponsorship related communications are integrated and coordinated.
- Oversee public relations efforts to effectively communicate the agency’s mission, vision, and fundraising campaign goals to the public and media.
- Oversee the creation, distribution and performance of fundraising collateral, including newsletters, press releases, social media and website content, and printed collateral.
- Develop and implement strategic personalized and organizational content for donor and volunteer communications including thank you letters, impact reports, cases for support, proposals, newsletters, personal notes and impact stories for individuals, corporations, volunteers and donors.
- Ensure consistency in messaging and branding across all fundraising communication pieces.
- Monitor and analyze marketing campaign performance and adjust strategies as needed to achieve optimal results.
- Inform internal and external stakeholders the progression of campaign targets, challenges and opportunities
Government Relations:
- Develop comprehensive strategies focused on the overall Government Relations activities of the organization
- Develop and maintain relationships with local, provincial, and federal government officials and agencies.
- Lead the efforts to secure government funding in support of both campaign and ongoing operations.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments that impact Hull Services and provide timely updates to the Executive Director and Board.
- Coordinate meetings, presentations and communications with government representatives to promote Hull Services’ interests.
- Conduct Government Relations in a way that is, always non-partisan.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in business administration, Marketing, Communications, Nonprofit Management, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in fundraising, marketing, communications, or government relations, with a proven record of leading successful campaigns and securing gifts of $1m or more.
- A strong understanding of the political and government landscapes and current events as it pertains to policy and funding of social services organizations
- A thorough understanding of the Agency’s mission, philosophy, goals, and management systems.
- High professional and ethical standards, working in accordance with ethical codes adopted and aligning with the mission of Hull Services.
- Skilled at monitoring and reporting outcomes, conducting research, and identifying opportunities for the advancement of programs and services.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement annual and strategic plans that achieve organizational goals.
- Proven experience leading and mentoring diverse teams (through direct and/or indirect reporting).
- Excellent interpersonal qualities including flexibility, effective communication, positivity, and relationship building skills to engage and inspire diverse audiences.
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with donors, sponsors, government officials, and other key stakeholders.
- Discretion, tact, and ability to maintain confidential information.
- Experience in the social services, health care or nonprofit sectors is highly desirable.
