The Opportunity

Under the direction of the Vice President (VP) Development, the Senior Associate is accountable for evaluating and maintaining the current annual and leadership giving programs, with a view of developing and implementing a strategy that will grow and strengthen the Foundation’s pipeline of donors, lead to increasing support levels, and meet or exceed fundraising goals (e.g. dollars raised; number of new donors acquired, existing donors retained and/or upgraded) in order to support future organizational growth.  The role is responsible for the identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of current and prospective donors, maximizing annual and leadership gifts and developing future major gifts and planned giving donors through various methods of solicitations, stewardship, and relationship building. As the lead for the Foundation’s direct response program, the Senior Associate will work closely with direct marketing vendors, and Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation (ACHF) colleagues in Communications, Donation Services and Prospect Research to plan and coordinate successful initiatives, and to provide fundraising strategy & counsel for Radiothon.  The role will work collaboratively with colleagues, leadership, prospects, donors, and volunteers to inspire sustained and future support. This is a temporary full-time, 14-month term position (with the possibility of extension).

Role Responsibilities:

In this role, you will be accountable for the following:

  • With direction from the VP Development, responsible for establishing and implementing effective short and long-term fundraising goals, initiatives, and strategies designed to increase the number of annual and leadership gifts as well as fundraising revenue within annual and leadership giving.
  • Manage an assigned portfolio of donors, which includes those within the direct marketing catchments, monthly donors, corporate grantors, and select major donors working strategically to secure gifts and develop a prospect pipeline for consideration as leadership, major and planned giving targets.
  • Coordinate annual giving program activities including monthly giving, annual donors, direct response campaigns, employee giving (within AHCF and Alberta Children’s Hospital), and Radiothon donors (monthly). Partner with the communications team in shaping communications that will engage and build donor support.
  • Analyze data and determine appropriate segmentation to support targeted mail, e-mail and social media ad solicitation strategies.
  • Provide information, insights and recommendations to leverage direct response communications in order to maximize revenue and improve the donor experience, including researching and testing new platforms, tools and tactics.
  • Identify and make recommendations for opportunities in new innovations in direct response marketing initiatives.
  • Produce data, reports, forecasts, and relevant metrics for direct response programs.  Analyze and communicate results tracking as it relates to budget goals and other performance metrics.
  • Act as the key point of contact for external vendors in the coordination and execution of successful direct mail appeals.
  • Establish the annual expense budget and revenue plan, as supported by the VP Fund Development.  Conduct monthly variance reporting. 
  • Develop capability as the ACHF subject matter expert in annual giving/leadership giving and integration of these programs with other revenue streams.
  • Enhance knowledge and understanding of the Foundation and our funding priorities in order to articulate the case for support of the ACHF/Alberta Children’s Hospital (ACH); act as a well-informed ambassador for the ACHF at presentations, donor meetings and at recognition events.
  • Maintain and enter pertinent information on donors, contacts, and prospects into our donor database (Raiser’s Edge).

Our Ideal Candidate

  • You have a post-secondary degree in a relevant field coupled with at least two (2) years of fund development experience in annual giving, leadership giving, or a related area; specific experience and understanding of the direct mail process is required. Suitable combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • You have a proven track record of cultivating, soliciting, and closing gifts of $1,000+, built on a strong foundation of principles, ethics, and practices of successful fundraising.
  • As a team player who is empathetic, responsive, flexible, and adaptable, you build and maintain positive relationships with staff, volunteers, vendors, and other stakeholders.
  • With an ability to work both independently and collaboratively, you prioritize, plan, and execute on deliverables, making the best use of time and resources.
  • You have excellent analytical skills and a well-developed ability to extract and summarize relevant information. This is coupled with your persuasive and professional writing, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Your skills are complemented by demonstrated proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite including Outlook, Power Point, Excel, and Word.In depth knowledge of donor data systems, preferably Raiser’s Edge (RE), is required; Classy experience is an asset.
  • You have a well articulated passion for the cause with the ability to present, influence and motivate others to support the Foundation.
  • As we have implemented a hybrid work arrangement, you must have the ability to work both in office and virtually, being well versed in the tools and technology to be effective in both.
