What you’ll be doing:

The successful candidate will play a crucial role in achieving fundraising results necessary to activate Momentum’s 2024-2029 Income First; Gains That Last strategic direction. This role cultivates and nurtures relationships with donors, guiding them through the fund development cycle, and securing gifts that increase over time in size, flexibility and duration. The Resource Development team at Momentum is known for achieving goals together through a non-competitive, team-first approach. Your efforts will directly support Momentum’s purpose.

This is one of two relationship-based fundraising positions. The team has four other members that provide stewardship and fulfillment, storytelling, database leadership, graphic design, events and proposal/reporting functions.

Responsibilities:

  • Fund Development Relationship Management: Guide a portfolio of about 100 individual, corporate and foundation-based donors through the fund development cycle, ensuring they are informed, engaged and inspired about Momentum’s impact and goals.
  • Investment Development: Work across teams internally to develop investment packages that will advance achievement of Momentum’s strategic goals.
  • Strategy Implementation: Collaborate with the fundraising team to develop and execute strategies that align with Momentum’s Income First strategy.
  • Reporting: Record donor engagement activity within the Raiser’s Edge database according to the team’s standards

  • Momentum donors and their philanthropic advisors

What you will need to do the job well:

  • Minimum 5 years not-for-profit fundraising/fund development experience including at least two in a relationship-based fundraising role.
  • A post-secondary degree in not-for-profit management, business, social work or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with demonstrated abilities in stewarding high stakes relationships with diverse individuals and groups including community partners, business leaders, government representatives, the general public, and culturally diverse communities.
  • Strong active listening, negotiating and closing skills.
  • Minimum 2 years in major gift fundraising work.
  • Experience with a fundraising database (Raiser’s Edge NXT preferred.)
  • Proven ability to manage multiple elements of a project, stay organized, and deliver on time at a high standard of excellence.
  • Excellent verbal, public speaking, and written communication skills with an appreciation/passion for the art of storytelling.
  • Passionate about connecting donors to opportunities for mission impact.
  • Knowledge of the Calgary philanthropic community.
  • Current knowledge of fundraising best practices and techniques.
  • Ability to take initiative to solve problems and explore new opportunities.
  • Knowledge of Community Economic Development and poverty issues an asset.
  • Ability to think strategically and work independently, sometimes to tight deadlines.
  • A membership in the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) is an asset.
  • Computer literacy in word processing, spreadsheets, databases, email and Internet systems essential.
  • Willingness to learn and take courses that will contribute to the knowledge strength of the organization (i.e., CFRE.)

Starting Salary: $65,000-$81,000 depending on experience
