We’re currently looking for a Communications Advisor to the CEO, President’s Office.

Reporting to the President and CEO, the Communications Advisor is responsible for producing all communication material for the CEO, coordinating, and developing consistent briefing materials, coordinating communication opportunities, and supporting the CEO at events. They will collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders and partners to ensure the CEO is fully supported in all communication activities. This position is primarily a writing role, and will provide support in the areas of communication, research, and writing, ensuring the voice and message of the CEO is always incorporated.

The ideal candidate must be an energetic self-starter who brings a creative, storytelling approach with a keen eye to strategy. They must also demonstrate an ability to develop high quality and compelling messaging for the CEO and have an uncompromising eye for attention to detail. This individual must display discretion, with the ability to work with highly confidential information.

What you will do

  • In alignment with the organizational communications strategy, develop and implement an integrated and strategic communications plan for the President’s office that advances United Way’s mission, strategy, and brand.
  • Conduct environmental scans and assess current trends to identify opportunities for the President’s office that advances United Way’s mission and builds the President’s reputation in the community.
  • Manage and grow the CEO’s social media presence and accounts, in collaboration with the Marketing and Communications team.
  • Manage media requests for the CEO in partnership with the Communications and PR team.
  • Assess and manage internal Communications vehicles, opportunities, and issues for the office of the CEO, including communications from the President to all staff.
  • Write and manage all public facing speeches and speaking engagements for the CEO, including gathering facts, briefing notes, and presentations as required. 
  • Work closely with Marketing and Communications teams to ensure strategic approach to CEO’s involvement in all corporate and public events. 
  • Proactively identify and clearly articulate complex issues, including risk assessment and identification, and formulate recommendations that will work for a variety of audiences. 
  • Work closely with CEO in developing Board materials including speaking notes, President’s reports and Board updates.
  • Collaborate regularly with the CEO and provide communication advice that reflects an understanding of their business and leadership style, balanced against organizational culture and corporate brand.
  • Staff the CEO at internal and external events and engagements.

What you will bring

Experience:

  • Undergraduate degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or advertising or a combination of related education and experience.
  • Minimum 7 years of writing experience with demonstrated experience writing at an executive level.

  • Experience writing for, and working in, a non-profit environment is an asset.
