Overview

Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School (STS) is a premier, co-educational, independent day school that traces its roots and traditions back over 115 years. STS develops well-balanced students for a life of purpose by inspiring excellence in scholarship, leadership and character. The School offers an extensive co-curricular program, a technology-rich environment and enrolls approximately 700 students in Kindergarten to Grade 12. In addition to a strong academic program, STS offers a global perspective through the prestigious International Baccalaureate (IB) and Round Square Programmes. With over 200 acres, our exceptionally well- equipped campus is situated in a spectacular setting just outside of the City of Calgary nestled against the foothills of the Rocky Mountains.

We are searching for a qualified, and experienced, individual to become our Director of Advancement. This is a 1.0 FTE continuing position subject to the successful completion of a probationary year. As a valued and contributing member of STS, the Director of Advancement, working closely with the other members of the Advancement and Community Relations team, is responsible for the school’s Annual Giving appeal, overseeing Alumni Relations initiatives and cultivating prospective Major Gift donors, all in support of the school’s strategic plan.

You are a person of impeccable integrity and display the highest levels of ethical practice. In addition, you have excellent interpersonal and communication skills including listening and being empathetic.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

•       College diploma or university degree in a relevant field

•       A fundraising designation such as CFRE or equivalent

•       Previous experience in fundraising

•       Experience with Raisers Edge software

•       Working with donors and volunteers

•       An understanding of the major gift cycle, motivation of volunteers and appropriate engagement and stewardship practices

•       Successful leadership experience in a high-performance team environment

•       Understanding and knowledge in researching and using new technologies to engage/support constituents and colleagues

•       Technologically proficient in a wide range of platforms

•       Strong communication, presentation, and facilitation skills

•       Ability to think strategically

•       Highly organized with the ability to multi-task and work within a fast-paced environment

•       Minimum of five (5) years’ experience

•       Flexible, innovative, and a curious learner

•       Has led a successful Capital Campaign

•       Ability to work independently and within a team

Key Responsibilities

•       Plan and implement a comprehensive Annual Giving program with a goal to increasing the number of donors and the amount raised each year

•       Prepare monthly/quarterly annual giving reports for the Head of School

•       Identify, recruit, and train volunteers to assist with Annual Giving campaign

•       Work closely with employees to identify community members as potential volunteers, donors and help provide coordination with fundraising efforts

•       Manage communications and solicitation strategies to achieve consistent and strong growth in revenue and participation rates, as well as donor engagement and satisfaction among all stakeholders

•       Actively participate to develop and implement major gift fundraising strategies to maximize funding of key initiatives within the School’s campaign planning

•       Initiate and manage initiatives to improve the School’s relations to engage alumni, parents, parents of alumni, former employees and friends. Liaise with the STS Alumni Association Executive and sub committees to realize initiatives outlined in the Strategic Plan, including a growing number of events

•       Manage relationships with 100-150 Major Gift prospects (gifts ranging in size from multiyear pledges of $25,000 – $250,000) throughout the development cycle (cultivation – stewardship)

•       Engage with development of key messages and written communication to advance strategic priorities including cultivation and celebration of donors, including current and planned giving donors

•       Oversight of other administrative responsibilities including, management and supervision of staff, engagement of business practices, oversight of the Advancement and Alumni Relations budget
