The Hangar Flight Museum
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Hangar Flight Museum (THFM) seeks an experienced and results-oriented fundraiser in the permanent, full-time role of Fund Development Manager.
The primary purpose of this position is to increase the organizational capacity through the development and execution of a strategic and integrated fund development plan to support annual operations and capital projects. The Fund Development Manager is responsible for leading, planning, managing, and overseeing all aspects of fund development with particular focus on individual giving, legacy, stewardship, developing digital fundraising, and targeted capital campaign(s). The role is also responsible for overseeing corporate partnerships, grants, sponsorships, and special events with a focus on fund development.
THFM has completed a Feasibility Study that will give the organization direction on a plan to build a New Facility that will replace the “tent hangar” in 5 years. The new 60,000 square foot permanent structure will provide additional space for historic aircraft viewing, new exhibits and displays, collections, education and youth programming, and community space. The Fund Development Manager will have a primary responsibility for the final phase of capital funding including the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of corporate and individual prospects.
The Fund Development Manager collaborates with the Executive Director and Board to advance the Strategic Plan and participate in awareness and community engagement with the goal to help champion the fund development plan which increases annual operating budget, capital, and reserve revenues to support the strategic direction of the organization.
Responsibilities and Duties:
• Develop strategies for donors and prospects, ensuring effective use of resources, identifying/pursuing new sources of funding, while ensuring optimal fundraising outcomes in accordance with ethical fundraising principles.
• Major Campaigns: Lead, develop, and execute major campaign plans; grow and sustain the current major and planned gift donors; and build and maintain lifelong relationships between donors and the community to support a strong culture of philanthropy. This will include planning, organizing, and participating in internal and external fundraising events for the museum.
• Integrated Fund Development Program: Develop, manage, and implement an integrated fund development program to meet THFM’s day-to-day operational, capital and infrastructure needs (including aircraft restoration). Research and implement fund development strategies to
enhance financial sustainability and the capacity for growth.
• Financial forecasting: As part of the leadership team, build accurate financial forecasts for the budget year relative to fund development and communications thereof. Supports growth strategy with critical market data and accountable to risk oversight and crisis management preparedness.
• Oversees the development of a strong case for support and achievement of annual philanthropic targets.
• Monitors trends in the community or region and adapts public relations and fundraising strategies as necessary.
• Marketing and Communications: With the Visitor Experience and Operations Director, create the association’s marketing collateral, branding initiatives, social media presence, website, promotional and educational materials, and conference presentations that relate to fund development activities for both The Hangar Flight Museum and Canada’s Aviation Hall of Fame.
• Oversees the planning and evaluation of special public events (for fundraising and public relations events) to generate funds and/or government recognition for the organization in the external community.
• Stakeholder Relations: Prepare the reports, presentations, and strategies for the Board, funders, and donors.

• Provide regular reports to the Executive Director and Board measuring progress of agreed upon targets and milestones.
KEY ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
• Work closely with the Executive Director, Visitor Experience and Operations Director, and Board to ensure THFM is advancing the Strategic Plan and meeting the goals expressed in the museum’s business model and plans.
• Participation on the Board of Directors’ Advancement Committee.
• Provides leadership for staff and volunteers by engaging staff with fund development activities.
• Actively fosters a culture that reflects the Museum’s values (respect, community, stewardship, knowledge, passion) and contributes to a strong cohesive team.
Qualifications and Assets:
• A relevant post-secondary degree or combination of relevant training, education, and experience
• A Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) designation is an asset. Canadian Association of Gift Planners (CAGP) membership is an asset.
• 5+ years of progressive fund development experience with an emphasis on individual giving (major, recurring, annual), campaigns, digital fundraising
• Experience developing and implementing a digital fundraising strategy (digital marketing for revenue generation)
• Significant knowledge of fund development best practices
• Proven ability to maximize existing revenue streams and relationship building
• Demonstrated ability to interact comfortably, tactfully, and effectively with donors, varied internal and external constituencies and a wide range of stakeholders
• Knowledge and experience of special events planning and management
• Experience working collaboratively with staff and a team of volunteers
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; case development and proposal writing skills
• Detail oriented, focused, and strategic thinker, able to adapt quickly, with initiative, passion, and energy
Working Conditions & Requirements:
Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week
• Evenings and weekend work, as required
• Driving and remote computer connection required
Salary Range: $90,000 – $100,000 (dependant on qualifications and experience)
