About this Position

The Senior Development Officer is an enthusiastic, organized, experienced fundraising professional with experience in major gifts and sponsorship. Reporting to the Interim, Sr. Director of Development, the Senior Development Officer is responsible for supporting and playing a lead role in supporting NMC’s operational fundraising efforts. Working closely with other members of the development team, the executive office, leadership volunteers, and members from other NMC departments, the candidate will implement strategies and processes to engage in the development of long-term relationships with individuals, foundations, and corporations who have the capacity to provide significant financial support.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing a personal pipeline of major and leadership gift donors and sponsors (capable of giving at least $10,000).
  • Representing NMC to donors, prospects, sponsors, and fundraising volunteers.
  • Managing a portfolio of major gift prospects, developing customized strategies, and implementing key actions to increase revenue using all of NMC’s development programs.
  • Participation in and providing leadership for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major gifts from individuals, foundations, and corporations from across Canada.
  • Establishing and maintaining professional and productive work relationships with high-profile volunteers and major donors, providing strategic advice and support as required.
  • Analyzing, interpreting, and implementing donor prospect research.
  • Supporting the positioning of NMC as a significant fundraising organization and a desired place of investment
  • Coordination of prospect identification, review, and uses of Linkage Interest and Ability and other fundraising performance tools such as metrics and pipeline segregation.
  • Adherence to ambitious timelines, while maintaining flexibility in approach.
  • Preparing and delivering proposals, presentations, and other communications materials.
  • Managing information on activity through Raiser’s Edge NXT including call reports, updates, and opportunities.
  • Managing the implementation of appropriate donor recognition and stewardship strategies, policies, and procedures.

Qualifications

The Senior Development Officer is a critical role in the success of the National Music Centre’s fundraising program. The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • 3-5 years experience in non-profit fund development or equivalent in another sector.
  • Practices ethical fundraising principles such as transparency, accountability, respect, integrity, and reputation
  • Demonstrated success in major gifts fundraising ability ($50,000 and up.)
  • Experience with raisers edge
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders; ability to deal with senior-level business and community leaders, government, donors, and volunteers.
  • An understanding of the methodologies and moves-management philosophy including metrics and probability tools.
  • Experienced in major giving and planned giving fundraising.
  • Superior verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills; can formulate and express ideas and concepts clearly and concisely.
  • Capable of making public presentations.
  • Good judgment and discretion in dealing with confidential or sensitive matters; high degree of professionalism and tact.
  • Strong organizational, administrative, and analytical skills; ability to work simultaneously on a variety of complex projects with tight deadlines.
  • Fluent in CRA (Canada Revenue Agency) regulations.
  • Strong fluency in Apple environment, Microsoft Office suite, and Raiser’s Edge NXT fundraising software.
  • Bilingualism (French/English) is an asset.
  • CFRE designation is an asset.
  • Passion for music is essential.
