Reporting to the Executive Campaign Consultant , the Director, Philanthropy oversees the Foundation’s individual solicitation fundraising efforts (including major gifts, mid-level, leadership, major gifts, planned giving and campaigns). The position will demonstrate strong leadership in establishing and developing long-term philanthropic relationships with high capacity prospects and donors while leading a team of fundraisers. They will balance their time between contributing to fundraising strategy; identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of a portfolio of prospects and donors; and coaching a high performing team. The Director, Philanthropy will develop and implement strategies that promote long-term sustainable growth and deepen the organization’s relationships with donors and volunteers. The Director will actively build positive working relationships and a spirit of collaboration with leaders across the organization with a ‘one-Foundation’ approach. This position is based out of Calgary, AB.

A typical day might include:

Responsible for the implementation and operationalization of the Alberta Cancer Foundation’s strategic plan including capital campaigns, gift planning and major gift fundraising initiatives
Communicate the Foundation’s objectives in a persuasive and strategic manner to translate the interests of potential donors into inspiring giving opportunities
Develop strategies with team members to solicit and secure mid-level, leadership, major and planned gifts for foundation priorities
Responsible for strategic development of operational goals of all direct reports
Develop and implement a comprehensive fund development plan, in conjunction with the VP Philanthropy, which establishes clear goals and a budget for the philanthropy team,
Lead team’s relationship building with tertiary cancer centre leadership, notably CCI/ TBCC
Build internal relations with physicians and researchers and other health care providers
Provide ongoing coaching and direction by working together with direct reports to develop individual work plans and plans to achieve set directives and goals
Foundation representative for external representation amongst AHS, Foundation Relations, CancerCare Alberta, and/or other stakeholders as required
Strategic oversight of provincial planned giving, tribute and mid level program execution within geographic jurisdiction.

Your Qualifications:

A post-secondary degree in a relevant discipline, including Business, Marketing, Communications, and/or combination of education, experience and training acceptable to the Foundation.
Minimum five years of progressively responsible fundraising leadership experience and a proven record of successful cultivation and solicitation of six and seven figure gifts
Experience in planning and execution of capital and comprehensive campaigns;
Solid knowledge of ethical principles and best practices relating to fundraising, prospect research, donor relations and communications (CFRE Designation is considered an asset)
Previous experience and familiarity with Raiser’s Edge or equivalent donor database management systems and Microsoft Office suite;
Knowledge of Canada Revenue Agency, Federal and Provincial laws as they pertain to charitable work;
Knowledge of healthcare environment considered an asset; and
Clear Background Check.
