Reports to: Chair, Canada’s Aviation Hall of Fame (CAHF)
Summary:
The Executive Director serves as the primary representative and face of Canada’s Aviation Hall of Fame (CAHF) in coordination with the CAHF Chair and Board. The successful candidate will support the transition of CAHF from a primarily volunteer driven organization to one that has a balance of staff and volunteer engagement and leadership. This role requires an experienced individual with a strong background in non-profit/charitable organizations in a leadership role, who is seeking a meaningful, flexible opportunity. The role encompasses managing and coordinating a wide range of activities, including fundraising initiatives, event planning, communications, administration, support to various committees, website maintenance, social media engagement, volunteer management, and more. The Executive Director ensures the effective operation and promotion of CAHF’s vision, mission and programs.
Key Responsibilities:
The Executive Director will work collaboratively with an active volunteer board to refine and implement CAHF’s strategic directions. This will include development and implementation of the following:
- Annual operational plans and budget aligned with the Strategic Plan
- Specific programs to achieve strategic goals
- An ambitious fundraising plan using available resources to support sustainability and growth
- Robust volunteer, communications and outreach strategies
- Strategic relationships with key community partners
- Ongoing reporting to and work with the Board, donors and funders on progress toward strategic goals (impact)
- Human resources plan to meet emerging growth requirements
- Organizational infrastructure, including systems and databases to support CAHF’s administration and fundraising
In specific, but not limited to, the Executive Director will undertake:
- Representation and Fundraising:
- a. Act as the primary representative of CAHF alongside the Chair.
- b. Work on fundraising initiatives as directed by the Fundraising Committee.
- c. Assist Directors in the sale of tables and sponsorships for annual events.
- d. Obtain silent auction items and plan silent auctions for events.
- e. Coordinate casino event logistics and volunteer management.
- f. Continue building and maintaining the CRM database.
- Communications and Marketing:
- a. Issue the CAHF Flyer three times per year.
- b. Prepare and release digital newsletters.
- c. Manage social media platforms with regular posts.
- d. Invite and follow up with press for events.
- e. Present the Hall of Fame to event participants and stakeholders.
- f. Develop and implement educational programs and initiatives that align with CAHF’s mission.
- Event Planning and Coordination:
- a. Work with the recurrent fund-raising event/tournament such as the Golf Planning
- Committee to plan the annual fund-raising event.
- b. Plan and execute the Inductee Nominations Review Committee event in August
- 2025, including press release issuance upon board approval.
- c. Coordinate the annual Induction event, including venue negotiation, booking,
- and coordination with the Induction Event Committee.
- d. Plan new award events and other special occasions.
- e. Attend all Induction Committee meetings and coordinate evening events.
- Administrative Support:
- a. Provide assistance to the Nominations Committee for Director nominations and
- elections.
- b. Provide assistance for CAHF audits.
- c. Attend, participate in, and take minutes of existing committees meetings,
- Executive Board meetings, and National Board meetings on a quarterly basis.
- d. Issue minutes for review following each meeting.
- e. Coordinate monthly bookkeeping activities.
- Website and Digital Content Management:
- a. Keep the CAHF website up to date, including new Director and Inductee
- information.
- b. Remove outdated information and ensure all links are operational.
- c. Digitize CAHF collection, NRC files, and oFice records.
- d. Implement other updates as required
- Volunteer Management
- a. Manage and coordinate volunteers for various events and activities.
- b. Engage and recruit new volunteers as needed.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- a. Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Business Administration,
- Event Management, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
- Experience:
- a. Experience working in non-profit organizations, museums, or cultural
- institutions is an asset.
- b. Leadership ability, demonstrated by leadership experience in the non-profit
- charitable sector
- c. Minimum of 5 years of experience in operations, communications, and event
- management.
- d. Familiarity with the aviation industry is preferred
- Skills:
- a. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- b. Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
- c. Proficiency in digital communications, including social media and website
- management.
- d. Experience in event planning and coordination.
- e. Knowledge of fundraising principles and practices.
- f. Ability to work collaboratively with committees, volunteers, and
- stakeholders.
- g. Proficient in using CRM systems and basic bookkeeping software.
- h. Familiarity with digitization processes and records management.
- Other Requirements:
- a. Preference for candidates speaking both English and French
- b. Valid driver’s license.
- c. Ability to travel as needed for events and meetings.
- d. Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
Work Environment:
- Operates principally in a remote work setting.
Preference for candidates that live/work in Alberta - Requires occasional travel to event locations and meetings.
- May involve lifting of supplies and materials up to 25 pounds.
Compensation: $65,000 – $80,000 (negotiable)
