The Senior Development Officer, Annual Giving & Special Events is responsible and accountable for overall strategy development and implementation of certain aspects of the Annual Giving Program to maximize the YW Calgary’s relationship with donors, increase fundraising revenue and increase the
profile of the YW Calgary. Key areas of responsibility include special events, digital appeals, online giving, direct appeals, newsletters, third party events, and peer to peer fundraising. All Resource Development staff are expected to exercise compliance with the YW Calgary Resource Development Ethical Fundraising Policies; adhere to Canada Revenue Agency regulations; ensure constituent information is accurately recorded; and provide stewardship in accordance with guidelines.
This is a Temporary full time 1 year position working 37.5 hours per week, from 8:30 am. – 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Participate in ongoing opportunities for professional development
  • Oversee, manage and grow all aspects of YW Calgary special events and annual giving program
  • Develop and oversee the execution of strategies and initiatives for attracting new donors and maximizing annual giving including but not exclusive to digital appeals, online giving, direct appeals, newsletters, special events, third party events and peer to peer fundraising
  • Coordinate and implement YW Calgary’s signature fundraising special events jointly with the Development Coordinator: Annual Giving & Special Events
  • Work alongside the Senior Stewardship Officer to manage donor relations including recognition, stewardship, cultivation and renewal of gifts
  • Provide day to day support to the Development Coordinator; Annual Giving & Special Events.
  • Provide input on event budgets; adhere to spending policies and budget guidelines
  • Report on event related Key Success Indicators (KSIs) (dollars raised, tickets sold, participation) on a regular basis
  • Research changes in market, trending and new initiatives relevant to annual giving and implement new strategies as identified
  • Participate in and support the development of a high performance team and a collaborative work environment within the organization
  • Develop new and maintain established relationships
  • Represent YW at events and meetings
  • Work closely with organization’s broader digital strategies, giving online audiences a consistent coherent experience
  • Provide input on strategies and processes to maximize user experience and achieve event goals
  • Cultivate and attract volunteers to assist with Special Event and Annual Giving fundraising activities
  • Celebrate volunteer achievements
  • Support team members to work to priority areas for maximum impact

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

  • A clear Police Information Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Search, and an Intervention Record Check is required upon commencement of employment
  • A degree or diploma in a related field such as business, non-profit studies, event management or communication
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle may be required for travel depending on program operations
  • A minimum of five years of related experience in special events and/or fundraising, with a proven track record of developing, managing and implementing events and achieving financial goals
  • Understanding of non-profit digital landscape, including email giving and advocacy, social media, best practices and emerging technologies
  • Strong computer software skills are required including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge/NXT and Givergy considered an asset
  • Basic understanding in Canada Revenue Agency tax receipting policies and procedures
  • Energetic, organized, strong attention to detail, able to multi-task and prioritize
  • Enjoys leading and inspiring others to do their best work
  • Affiliation with professional organizations such as AFP, CFRE or SEP
  • Occasional evenings and weekends required throughout the year

QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree or better in Business Administration or related field.
  • Bachelor’s degree or better in Nonprofit Development and Administration or related field.
  • Diploma Event Planning and Management or better

Licenses & Certifications
Preferred:

  • CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Executive)
