The Alberta Cancer Foundation (ACF) – the official fundraising partner for all 17 Cancer Control cancer centres in Alberta – exists to create more moments for Albertans facing cancer. They do this by inspiring the community to give to innovation in detection, treatment, and care.
Thanks to the commitment of their donors, they are able to help provide world-class cancer care for all Albertans and are dedicated to supporting all aspects of the cancer journey, from diagnosis to survivorship or palliative care. Through their partnership with Alberta Health Services, Cancer Care Alberta and the universities in Calgary and Edmonton, the ACF represents the interests of over 200,000 donors, raises more than $25 million annually and manages more than $150 million in endowments and funds. It is the largest provincially-based health care foundation in Alberta and is the largest non-government investor in cancer research in the province. This includes supporting ground-breaking research and enhanced care initiatives that will lead to advancements and provide real-life returns. Initiatives that will reduce risk, detect cancer
earlier, provide better treatment options and improve patient and family quality of life and care.
In 2023, the Calgary Cancer Centre will open its doors as an internationally recognized, state-of-the-art facility that will change the landscape of patient care and research. The Vice President, Development and Campaign will be instrumental to help make this vision a reality and launch a $250M+ campaign in partnership with the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary.
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Vice President, Development and Campaign is responsible for providing leadership and oversight on all fundraising activities pertaining to the upcoming Calgary Cancer Centre campaign, as well as the ongoing major gift, leadership giving and legacy giving fundraising programs.
The primary focus is to deliver upon a once-in-a-generation opportunity to elevate cancer fundraising in Alberta. This person will work with key philanthropic partners to balance the collaborative spirit of the campaign. As a key member of the organization’s executive team, the Vice President will also work in partnership with other leaders in the Foundation on annual fundraising activities to ensure cohesive execution.
The successful candidate is a masterful fund development professional with significant experience
supporting or leading a considerable capital campaign and major gifts development, with the ability to navigate sophisticated multi-stakeholder environments such as healthcare and academia. With superior communication and interpersonal skills, the Vice President, Development and Campaign has the capacity to build and maintain relationships and connections with community leaders, government, business professionals, and academia, at a senior level. This leader will be a strong voice on the executive team with a heartfelt commitment to the purpose of the organization and exhibit ethical behaviour that is consistent with the mission and values of the Alberta Cancer Foundation.
