The Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager, Planned Giving (PG), the Associate is responsible for the development and maintenance of a portfolio of PG donor and prospect accounts, contributing to the growth of fundraising revenue in support of the Alberta Children’s Hospital (ACH), the Alberta Children’s Hospital Research Institute (ACHRI) and related child health initiatives. The Associate will develop and maintain relationships with donors and prospects who have made or may be considering making a provision for a gift in their estate plans, working to actively cultivate prospects through effective donor connection and personalized communication. This role is equally responsible for the integrity and utilization of planned giving data, maintaining accurate records in the donor database (Raiser’s Edge), establishing a list for outreach and contact, and determining appropriate stewardship and recognition based on donor preferences.

Key Responsibilities
As the Associate, Planned Giving, your responsibilities will include:
- Build and maintain relationships with donors and prospective donors through donor facing stewardship and personalized communication tailored to their preferences.
- Contribute to the planned giving prospect portfolio though active cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. This includes providing support for outreach strategies with loyal donors and professional advisors.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of Planned Giving fundraising strategies, with a specific focus on the development and implementation of the Professional Advisor engagement Strategy.
- Further the development of the Family of Hope Legacy Society.
- Develop a deep knowledge and thorough understanding of the cause and our funding priorities to articulate the general case for support of the Alberta’s Children’s Hospital Foundation/Alberta Children’s Hospital by having a thorough understanding of all programs.
- Be a well-informed ambassador for ACHF at presentations, donor meetings and recognition events.
- Liaise with and support other Fund Development team members to promote planned giving conversations.
- Maintain accurate donor records in the Foundation’s electronic files; ensure donor communications are accurately entered into Raiser’s Edge. Update information for professional advisors and allied professionals
- Contribute to the development, monitoring, and tracking of planned giving performance indicators.
- Incorporate a genuine and personal touch, using effective, personalized writing skills to create and maintain planned giving stories to share internally and with the community.
- Ensure accurate recording and monitoring of all Planned Giving activities.
- Build donor and prospect lists for cultivation/stewardship events and online audiences.
- Coordinate opportunities for donors to see the impact about the area their gift has supported.
- Cross-train on all required administrative needs of the Planned Giving department. Act as a back-up resource when administrative support is not available.
- Work cooperatively and effectively with members of the ACHF staff and volunteers to advance the mission in a collaborative, integrated manner.
- Support effective and inspired donor relations and stewardship practices on behalf of the Foundation.
Our Ideal Candidate
- You have a post-secondary degree with a specialization in business administration, not-for-profit management (social innovation), or other relevant area.
- Your education is combined with three (3) years of fund development experience with demonstrated success and a progressive track record of managing relationships, developing potential prospects and donors, and strengthening relationships to secure gifts. Suitable combinations of education and experience will be considered.
- Previous experience with estates/estate planning, legacy giving, and/or an understanding of the tax implications of charitable giving, would be considered assets.
- You have the ability to maintain a positive and professional image, remaining diplomatic and tactful at all times, with an understanding of confidentiality in dealing with a variety of issues and stakeholders.
- Your exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work both independently and collaboratively allow you to develop new and enhance existing programs and priorities. You take the initiative to prioritize, plan, and execute on deliverables, making the best use of time and resources to
manage multiple and often competing priorities. - You have superior written and verbal communication skills with the proven ability to engage with a variety of donors to maintain positive relationships. Persuasive and professional writing, presentation, and communication skills are required.
- You have a well-articulated passion for the cause with the ability to present, influence and motivate others to support the Foundation.
- As a team player who is empathetic, responsive, dependable, and adaptable, you build and maintain positive relationships with donors, prospects, staff, volunteers, and other stakeholders.
- Previous experience in SharePoint is required. Your demonstrated proficiency in the MS Office Suite of programs is complemented by experience with virtual meeting tools (Teams, Zoom, etc.). In depth knowledge of donor data systems is required, including the aptitude, willingness, and ability to extract and analyze data. Raiser’s Edge (RE) and Classy experience is an asset.
- As we have implemented a hybrid work arrangement, you must have the ability and flexibility to work both in office and virtually, being well versed in the tools and technology to be effective in both.
