Reporting to the Stewardship Specialist within the Fund Development and Alumni Engagement Team, the Donor Relations Content Specialist is a communicator and storyteller who will support the stewardship needs of the department and our fundraisers. At the guidance of the Stewardship Specialist and in alignment with our Stewardship Matrix, the Donor Relations Content Specialist will write reports, e-newsletters, web articles, and support the content needs of donor recognition initiatives including event program materials and speech writing for various audiences

Report Writing and Content Gathering:

  • Responsible for creatively crafting engaging reports and other written materials for donor and alumni audiences
  • Conducts research with program staff, fundraisers, and Lead, Advancement Operations to determine what specific reporting needs are to provide customized and impactful reports; makes creative decisions in the approach of reporting to donors based off meetings with fundraisers and research into donor requirements
  • In consultation with the Stewardship Specialist, manages the Report Calendar and ensures reporting deadlines are met and donor reports are created in a timely manner
  • Taking into account the annual stewardship report calendar, writes donor impact reports that are engaging, factual and donor centric
  • Liaises with BVC program staff to secure relevant report information in a timely manner
  • Tracks reporting timelines and deadlines to ensure accuracy and efficiency of the reporting calendar
  • Assists in the updating and creation of report templates on a regular basis including a yearly review of all report templates and content
  • Writes in a variety of formats such as formal proposals, reports, magazine articles, and scripts
  • Responsible for, and serves as the specialist in all aspects of Donor Relation- related communications for donors
  • Researches and writes materials, including reporting back to donors through progress and impact reports, sharing the College’s stories and impact to our donor audience and helping to inspire giving through writing for in person events including scripts and programs
  • Produces written work that champions the BVC brand and BVC values and keep donor priorities in mind, adhering to the BVC style guide
  • Reports back to donors on their gifts to the College through yearly progress and impact reports
  • Shares the college’s stories and impact to our donor audience through articles (web and print)
  • Inspires a continuation of donor giving through writing for events (scripts, programs), web articles, and reports
  • Produces written content based off previously agreed upon task list/calendar
  • Assists in donor retention through exceptional reporting and storytelling
  • Assists in maintaining reporting timelines (based off a yearly calendar)
  • Produces content based off previously agreed upon task list/calendar and assist in maintaining reporting and thank you letter timelines
  • With guidance from the Stewardship Specialist, manages the production of the yearly endowment reports

Letters and other Written works:

Responsible for developing effective communication materials for digital and print formats including:

  • Creating and sending and thank you and acknowledgement letters within assigned timeframe
  • Business receipts

Researches, conducts interviews, and writes articles for publications for various audiences including:

  • Donor newsletters
  • Alumni newsletters
  • Web articles
  • eSoliciations for Giving Day and other FDAE fundraising initiatives 

Crafts content for internal College Connect intranet to inform campus colleagues about FDAE events and initiatives 

Provides scripts and support for campus tours and other on campus donor events and initiatives

Event Specific Writing:

Responsible for the content creation and writing of materials needed for donor recognition activities including:

  • Event support materials (executive briefing notes, etc.)
  • Event materials including invitations, event video scripts, post-event communications, event  programs, signage and event speaking notes

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications 
•    Diploma – journalism, communications, marketing or related field
•    Minimum 3 years writing experience for various audiences 
•    Strong portfolio of writing content for web, print and other audiences
•    An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

Preferred Qualifications
•    Strong understanding of the post-secondary/non-profit sectors with a preference for experience in donor communications
•    Preference for experience in writing in fundraising, donor relations and/or post-secondary work.
•    Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills
•    Knowledge of graphic design considered an asset

This is a part time, Exempt position.
