Very shortly after starting with the ALS Society of Alberta, Wayne applied for and received a Chamberlain Scholarship through AFP Calgary & Area Chapter and AFP International. After returning from the 2005 International Fundraising Conference (ICON) in Baltimore Wayne was invited to write about his experience and scholarship and almost immediately invited to be the Editor of the Calgary Chapter Newsletter (pre-Pipeline) and quickly became “hooked” on community service to the fundraising profession.
In addition to his time at the ALS Society of Alberta, Wayne’s day jobs have included Planned Giving at the Canadian Red Cross and being a “general practitioner” with Volunteer Calgary and Fresh Start Recovery Centre.
Wayne’s volunteer job(s) have included several roles with the AFP Calgary & Area Chapter Board over sixteen years (NPD Co-chair, Chapter Services Chair, Diversity & Inclusion Chair then IDEA Chair, Secretary, President-Elect, President, Past President and President again before retiring in 2020), AFP International since 2009 (International Development, Diversity & Inclusion then IDEA), AFP in Canada (Canadian Council 2013 – 2017 and a member of the inaugural AFP Canada Board 2017 until 2020 serving as a member, Secretary and Chair-Elect), the CAGP Calgary RoundTable from 2004 to 2009 and the GivingTuesdayYYC Co-chair with Derek Fraser since the year after he brought the movement to Calgary in 2013.
Wayne’s passion is connecting people who dream of making the world a better place with the causes that can help these dreamers reach their goals by advancing and sharing the practice of ethical fundraising locally and globally.
